Hammerheart – Unity C#

For the past year, Hammerheart has been my personal passion project. A top-down, combat-oriented RPG set in the late Anglo-Saxon period, it started out as one of my second-year projects at university. I’ve since gained an online following and put together a team of four others helping with different aspects of the game.

Hammerheart is an expression of my deep passion for history and has a heavy focus on accurately representing the history and culture of the Anglo-Saxons and early medieval Scandinavians. The focus on historical accuracy does not at all hinder the gameplay, and has even helped me to design a range of fun and interesting mechanics that help to make Hammerheart unique.

I have dedicated a whole page to Hammerheart here.

“The gameplay itself is quite extraordinary and I hope you do take this to a full commercial game as I believe it would do very well. There is some great attention to detail here with outstanding presentation throughout. Your combat system is very, very good and it has clearly undergone a lot of refinement to get the feel and visuals just right.”

My roles and responsibilities:

  • Lead designer
  • Sole programmer
  • Historical research
  • Team and project management
  • Social media

Aye Aye Captain! – UE4 Blueprint

“Aye Aye Captain! is a 4-player local co-op party game, in which the players must defend their ship and guide it to safety. It was created in 6 weeks with a team of 18 students across 2nd and 3rd year Games and VFX students at Staffordshire University. To add another challenege, all of this was created during the lockdown, where we had to function as a remote game studio!”

My roles and responsibilities:

  • Junior programmer
  • Mechanic development
  • Game loop development

Theatre 4 Dummies – Unity C#

T4D is a co-op party game made by three friends and myself in 48 hours for Global Game Jam 2020. One player, an abseiling builder, must rearrange and repair parts of the map for the other player to traverse like a conventional platformer. I helped to design and develop an interesting set of mechanics to produce a fast-paced and thrilling experience with a heavy focus on teamwork.

My roles and responsibilities:

  • Assistant designer
  • Lead programmer
  • Mechanic development
  • UI development

Pixel Art Operator – Photoshop

For one of my second-year university projects, I created a tilesheet and set of animated sprites for a modern military top-down shooter. It consists of 37 map tiles, two animation cycles and two animation events, which I drew using Photoshop and presented using Unity.

My roles:

  • Art
  • Animation
